About the play:
"The Long Shadow of Alois Brunner" explores the true story of one of the most wanted Nazi criminals who escaped death. Instrumental in the deportation of over 100,000 charges to concentration camps and ghettos, Alois Brunner evades several arrest attempts – fleeing to Damascus which helped to change the course of other Syrian intelligence changes. Arriving in 21st century Berlin as a refugee, Syrian playwright Mudar Alhaggi discovers Brunner's discovery and begins to obsessively research it, before disappearing himself...
In this cast-led play, two parts are encountered that weave together fragments of Alhaggi's analysis, as personal observation, Internet history, truth and fiction collide. Weaving Syrian and German histories, "The Long Shadow of Alois Brunner" explores exile, accountability and political memory – and the complex threads that connect the past to the present.
